Double Decker Living Root Bridge

The gorgeous Meghalaya houses some of the rarest and most breath-taking natural man-made wonders- Living Root Bridges. There are 11 functional root bridges in this area. The traditional wooden bridges often got decayed and destroyed during the lengthy monsoon seasons in Meghalaya and hence, the root bridges were proved to be a stable alternative to them. Imagine walking over these root bridges which are not only serving the purpose to cross the waterways but adding more beauty to nature. A trek to villages in Cherrapunji is a must if you wish to witness these beautiful root bridges. Meghalaya's most famous root bridge, the "double-decker" root bridge is located closest to Cherrapunji. The way leading to the double-decker bridge is more exciting as you trek all the way to cross thick jungles, stone steps, water streams, etc. Tyrna village is the base point of this 1.5-hour long trek (3 km). The bridge stands at a height of 2400 feet. Reaching the 20-meter long upper bridge is tough but all worth it. Relax by the water bodies around the bridge as you dip your legs in the streams or jump in for some fun swim!
